Finding music & dance

Finding information about music, dance and the performing arts

Searching in millions of records in Trove when you're interested in just one topic area can be a daunting prospect. Trove has built a tool, the selected subject view, to help you find information about music, dance and the performing arts. This tool can be used in the Books zone, pictures, photos, objects zone, diaries, letters and archives zone and music, sound and video zone.

There are two ways you can use the selected subject view, in the advanced search screen or refining your search.

Advanced search

  1. Open advanced search
  2. Enter your search terms, for example ‘j c williamson’
  3. Scroll down to selected subject view
  4. Use the drop down menu to choose either ‘Performing arts’ or ‘Music’
  5. Click search

Refine your results

  1. Type your search terms into the search box
  2. Click search
  3. Click on ‘View all results’ in the zone you’re interested in
  4. Click on ‘Selected subject view’ under ‘Refine your results’
  5. Click on ‘Performing arts’ or ‘Music.

Here is a short video which shows you how to use it.
