Trove system overview

Trove is an online discovery service developed by the National Library of Australia that aims to make resources relating to Australia easier to find and use. It aggregates metadata records from hundreds of sources and makes them easily searchable through a single interface. Trove also delivers a growing range of digital content, such as fulltext newspaper articles. Trove supports the reuse of data through a public API and offers a number of popular user annotation and engagement features.

Trove comprises a number of interconnected systems that harvest, manage, index and deliver digital content. These systems have been created using a combination of open source and internally developed software. Some of these components pre-date the current discovery service. Trove is under active development.

The main functions and systems comprising Trove are described in this System Overview (pdf). The main systems and data flows within Trove are illustrated in this diagram (pdf).
