For book sellers

Where does Trove link to bookshops?

When a user wants to buy an item in Trove they can click through to sellers who have a copy available for immediate purchase. This might be a participating online bookshop, a library’s document supply service or an online subscription journal service.

Participating online bookshops are searched behind the scenes by Trove by ISBN or author/title. If the online store has the item available for sale, a link to that item is provided and displays as a green ‘Buy now’ button on the ‘Buy’ tab.

Any Australian bookshops that have the item are shown first, followed by International bookshops.

There are bookshops whose systems aren’t searchable by Trove but may still have the item available for purchase. You can find links to these bookshops by clicking ‘these bookshops’ at the very bottom of the page. You will need to click on the link to their online shop and search for the item on their website

For example, The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan won the Man Booker Prize in 2014. If the user wished to buy a copy of it rather than borrow it from a library, they would click the 'Buy' tab under 'Get this edition'. Trove searches participating bookshops and find the ones which have the book. Users can click the 'Buy now' button next to the bookshop they wish to buy from.

How do I link Trove to my online bookshop?

To become a participating online bookshop:

  1. Download and complete the Bookshop Deep Linking Details document. This provides the Trove team with technical details for linking to your system. You may need assistance from your technical staff to complete it.
  2. Fill in the online Link your Book Shop form. After you click submit you will be prompted to attach your completed Bookshop Deep Linking Details document. Click ‘Browse’, choose the completed document, click ‘Open’ and then click ‘Upload File’.
  3. The Trove team will make some behind the scenes changes to link to your bookshop. We’ll provide you with a link to our test system for you to review. Once you’re happy with the display, your bookshop will be made available in the next Trove release.

My bookshop website has changed, how do I make sure Trove continues to link to our items?

When your website changes the way Trove links to it can change too. The best way to tell if your connection is still working is to try and find an item you have in Trove. Click on the ‘Buy’ tab – if your bookshop is listed you do not need to notify Trove of the changes.

If your website is not listed, you will need to be setup afresh in Trove. To do so:

  1. Download and complete the Bookshop Deep Linking Details document. This provides the Trove team with technical details for linking to your new system. You may need assistance from your technical staff to complete it.
  2. Fill in the online Link your Book Shop form again. After you click submit you will be prompted to attach your completed Bookshop Deep Linking Details document. Click ‘Browse’, choose the completed document, click ‘Open’ and then click ‘Upload File’.
  3. The Trove team will make some behind the scenes changes to change the link to your bookshop. We’ll provide you with a link to our test system for you to review. Once you’re happy with the display, your bookshop will be made available in the next Trove release.
